The church is located at 40 East 35th Street in a very nice neighborhood. They hold free movie screenings every week. A lot of their movies are award winning movies. And there are free refreshments at the movie screenings. Don’t miss them out.

Today is the first time I visit a mosque. I found out that, as a woman, I was supposed to wear a head scarf to go into the mosque. But they let me in anyway. Inside the mosque, there is a separate section for women to pray, which is completely covered so that no one can see what is inside. However, even inside that separate section for women, women are still supposed to wear head scarf to pray. A woman lent me a head scarf for me to take part in the prayer.

There is nothing for beginners who speak English. Most books are in Arabic. The only one I found that has English was not for beginners. I could not find any written materials to learn what I was supposed to do in there and how to pray. I learned from other women in there. There were actually only two other women. There were way more men than women. There might have been thirty to fifty men.

The preacher did not speak English. I could not understand anything he said.

However, I liked being there. It was quiet. And it was a large open space that was covered with clean carpets. It was very relaxing.

New York Garden Church

by on Nov.14, 2007, under Organizations>Religious Organizations>Churches>Korean Churches

New York Garden Church is a Korean church located near the Empire State Building. The church goers are mostly Korean students. The pastor is Korean too. However, I do see some English speaking people coming to the church for bible study in the evening sometimes.

They have a Gospel Cafe which offers free Internet, which is open everyday until late in the evening and is very popular. They offer free food at every Sunday service. There are young children among Sunday church goers. So it is like a community church as well.

They sing pop music in this church. And they sing on the street in front of the building every Saturday afternoon. The boys have beautiful voices. But the girls are not singing loud enough. I wish that the girls have better voices.
